Bjørke is a village at the head of Hjørundfjorden in Ørsta municipality. It is located in the middle of the Sunnmøre Alps and is an undiscovered natural beauty spot. Tussa Kraft’s main power station has been located here since 1961, when pipes were installed in the waterfall Tyssefossen. Agriculture and fishing in the fjord have been Bjørke’s main industries for centuries. Bjørke and Skjåstaddalen is one of the villages in Norway with the most wooden buildings from the Middle Ages.
- Midtsumar på Bjørke (Mid summer at Bjørke) is a nice event where the entire village comes together for several activities in the mid summer weekend, including dancing on the dock at Bjørke Marina.
Bjørke and Urke have one of the oldest farms in Hjørundfjorden. Grave findings from the early Iron Age (600 AD) may even mean that it is the oldest one.
Bjørke is often dubbed “the culture village”, a feat which is helped by the creativity and enthusiasm of the locals.
